Hello, I’m Pete, a Devon-based Independent Celebrant and Minister – listener, story-weaver, magic-believer and Blues/Rock guitarist, finding wonder and inspiration in the lives of those people I meet day by day.
Husband, Dad and Grandad, I have enjoyed a wonderful career, over the past 30+ years, as a qualified Life Coach, mentor, counsellor, teacher and business advisor. I am passionate about guiding and supporting people through their significant life moments - in times of joy and in times of trial...
My promise to you is that I will give of my very best, to ensure that your ceremony is all you want it to be.
From initial chats, emails, phone calls, drafts and re-drafts, you and I weave a story of love, memories, laughter and sometimes tears. Together we craft your perfect ceremony – a ceremony that you can look back on, over the years, with joy and heartfelt contentment that honours you, as well as those you love.
My own 'journey'
Over the past years, life has required me to review my beliefs, values and sense of ‘place’ in this world, trying to make sense of the challenging situations that have arisen over the past 4-5 years - both to us as a family, as well as to friends and communities around us.
Some years back, I had a profound ‘calling’ towards the ordained ministry in the Church. Indeed, I underwent a long period of training, whilst working in my local parish. At the time, however, this type of ministry, which I felt was very restrictive, just didn’t feel right – I felt I wanted to meet people ‘where they are’, rather than where the Church wanted them to be.
As I have found over the years since, there’s a priestly ministry in ‘walking alongside’ people during their tough and challenging times, as well as during their times of celebration – offering guidance, support – and prayer – when called upon. There’s even a ministry to be had from being a Blues/Rock guitarist, as I’ve discovered, on occasion….
So as I retire from "UK Plc" – the world of ‘biz-ness’, targets and chasing profits, and after much prayer and contemplation, grappling with my own understanding of ministry, I again underwent a period of training and was ordained as a minister in a non-denominational church.
But the journey hasn’t stopped with the dog collar…
To do something is to do it well. So I qualified as an accredited celebrant, with the Academy of Professional Celebrants – to be alongside people – families – during those times when they want to cry with laughter and joy, or when they want to cry with sorrow and heartache.
In this way, I hope to offer some sort of spiritual, faith-based support, guidance and ceremony, but without the rigid, dogmatic approach of ‘traditional’ religion – or even with no religion at all…
It’s still me: cheese-lovin’, pasta-lovin’, wine-drinkin’ me….just with some other stuff shining through…
